  From Mexico, Central America. Moderate to fast growing evergreen shrub. Design height is 4', mature 8'. Compound 3 to 4" long, 3/4 to 1" wide leaves, oppositely arranged. Medium green and glossy (as in photo below), entire and ternate (example in photos above is probably 'Sundance'; has yellowish foliage). Flowers: White, 1" across in terminal cymes (look like citrus blossoms). Blooms February through April and intermittently in January, and May through August. Fruit: orange 1/4" capsules in fall (insignificant).

Prefers part sun, high to moderate water, loam and sandy soil (full sun OK if on coast, but more inland, requires some protection). Will not tolerate wet soil. Requires little maintenance. Little pruning required, prune after bloom. Can thin, head back. Propagate by cutting. Deer proof.

Uses: Cut flowers, filler, foundation, informal hedge, massing/bedding, background, screen.
