| Rarest pine in California; exists only on Santa Rosa Island and in northern San Diego County (Torrey Pines State Park). About 9-10,000 left. Though it has five needles per pannicle, it's not a white pine (Monterey Pine has three needles, and Shore Pine has two). Big fat woody seeds with tiny wings. Cone is on a small stalk. OK with little water, likes sandy soil. |
