  Dense, rounded shrub, design height is 6-8'; mature height 15'. Holly-like, oval to elliptic-oblong dark green leaves, leathery, glossy, sharp-toothed, up to 2 1/2" long. How to tell it's not a holly? 99% of plants in the Oleaceae family are oppositely arranged, 99% of holly is alternate.

White tubular fragrant flowers, late summer to fall. Blue/black fruit, 1/2", follows.

Prefers shade, but can take full sun near the coast or around bay. Further inland, may need more protection. Deer proof.
