From Central to East Asia. Very fast growing deciduous tree. Related to ficus. Design height around 30', mature height about 40'.
Simple leaves, alternately arranged, 6 to 12" long, medium gray and glossy, serrated. Palmately lobed and ovate.
Light trunk. Flowers: yellow catkins. Prefers full to part sun, high to light water. Likes loam, clay and sandy soil. Tolerates
drought, heat, poor soil and salt air. Milky white sap from bruised leaves. Food for silkworms.
Propagate by cutting, budding, grafting. Pinch during growth, remove suckers, thin. Use: street tree,
lawn tree, shade tree, avenue. Notorious sidewalk lifter, need to be contained.
