From Asia. Very fast growing deciduous tree, with a design height and spread of 40' and a mature height and spread of 50'. Medium green pinnate leaves, 1-3" long, entire and lanceolate.
Green 1/4" flowers in panicles, in April/May and sometimes June. 2" fruit (samara); immature fruit color is green, red when mature. In fall.
Prefers full sun, high to no water, all soil types OK. Low maintenance. Tolerates drought, heat, poor soil, salt air and wind. Remove suckers, stump sprouts, thin. Propagates by seed.
Use as a background tree, for erosion control, as a street (avenue) tree or shade tree. Use dried seed capsules (in arrangements). |
