  From South China and Japan. Slow growth evergreen shrub, design height is 6', mature height is 10'. Design spread is 6', with mature spread around 8'.

Alternately arranged dark green and glabrous leaves, entire and oval-obovate. 1 to 3" in length.

White flowers from late winter to spring, 3 to 4" long and 3/4" wide. 1/2" black berries from fall to winter.

Prefers full sun to part shade, well-drained soil. Tolerates drought, seacoast conditions and wind.

Propagate by seed, cutting. Also self-sows. Tolerates pruning. Use as a container plant, in groups, as a hedge or as a specimen. Rhaphiolepsis umbellate 'Minor' is smaller (2' by 2') with 1 1/2" leaves and white flowers.
