| Moderate growth evergreen tree, from S. Europe and Turkey. Design height and spread is 40'; mature height and spread is 50'. Grey/green needles, stiff and 5 to 8" long. Yellow catkins in spring. Chestnut brown and egg-shaped cones, 6 to 8". Likes full sun, no clay soil. Tolerates drought, wind and heat. Propagate by seed. Prune up branches to walk under. Good as windbreak, as a specimen tree, at roadside, for shade, in large gardens. |
