  Moderate to fast growing evergreen, from East Asia (Japan), N. Vietnam and Australia. Simple, nearly sessile alternately arranged medium to dark green leaves. Entire and obovate, elliptic. Inconspicuous flowers. Green-purple 2 to 4" fruit.

Like part sun to shade, high to light water, loam and sandy soil. Tolerates drought and heat. Has invasive roots, milky sap, subject to bleaching from bright excessive sun.

Propagate by cutting. Pruning: head back, stump sprouts, tolerates shearing, cut to ground soon after planting to stimulate growth. Use as a background, facer, ground cover, screen, trellis, for topiary.
