  Magnolia denudata   Magnolia denudata

From Central China. Denudata means 'naked'. Slow to moderate growth deciduous tree. Design height 20', mature height 40'; design spread is 30' with mature spread at 35'. Alternately arranged dark green leaves, 5 to 7" long and 3 1/2 to 5" wide. Creamy white and hairy 6" across flowers. Fruit: 3 to 5" conelike aggragate of seeds.

Prefers full sun, water deeply, likes rich soils. Subject to scale. Propagate by cuttings. Uses: as specimen and for fragrant blooms. Looks great espaliered against a brick wall. Will drop a lot of slippery leaves, so not a great choice for near a walk.
