  From Japan and China. Moderate growth evergreen shrub, to 6' design height or 6-15' mature height. Design spread 6', mature spread 6-15'. Simple alternately arranged 1-3" long leaves, dusty with yellow gray-green and glabrous above/silver below. Undulate and elliptic, oblong and oval.

Silvery white flowers in axillary clusters, 3/8 to 1/2" long. Red flecked with silver fruit, 1/4 to 1/2" drupe-like from early to mid winter.

Prefers full to part sun, light water, loam; tolerates drought, heat, poor soil, salt air and wind. Propagate by cutting, seed, grafting and layering. Head back any time or thin.

Use as a screen (plant 10' apart), in a mass planting and as a barrier. Cultivars include 'Coral Silver' (silver leaves); 'Marginata' (edged with silver); and 'Variegata' (edged with gold).
