From New Zealand. Moderate to fast growth evergreen plant. "Sedges have edges..." Design height and spread
is 2'; mature height is 3', and mature spread is 4'. Curled, bronze-brown linear leaves. Flowers are 36" spikes, light brown. Red-brown fruit. Prefers full sun, moist well-drained soil. Subject to fungal leaf spot, aphids and rust. Propagates by seed (in spring), divide in early summer. Prune by pulling out dead leaves.
Use as an accent for contract, looks great with blue/gray and dark green plants. Varieties include 'Buchanaii' and 'Testacea'; there's also a variegated Caryx.
