  From North America. Slow to moderate growth deciduous to semi-deciduous herbacious perennial. Design height and spread is 1'; mature height and spread is 3'. Medium to dark green and glabrous stiff fronds, symmetical, basal, to 3' long. Linearly shaped. Fall fruit (sori). Prefers shade, high to moderate water, loam; tolerates poor soil. Subject to scale. Propagates by spore, division of rhizomes. Prune by cutting off old fronds.

Use in a woodland setting, in wild gardens, shady spots, in a shade perennial border, along streams.

NOTE: 2 distinct types of frond on one plant; one is skinny and very upright.
