From the mountains of Arizona to Northern Mexico. Moderate growth evergreen shrub. Design and mature
height 20'; design and mature spread 3'. Gray-blue 12" leaves with black spines. Yellow-green 2 1/2" erect pannicles, 15' in summer, blooms every 20 years. Fruit is an ovoid sphere. Hardiness: from 25 to 41 degrees F. Prefers full sun, moderate water in summer, no water in winter. Likes slightly acid, well-drained soil; tolerates drought. Subject to scale,
mealy-bug, rootrot. Propagates by off-shoot. Don't prune.
Use as an accent with red or dark green low ground cover - emphatic, accent. Beautiful as contrast with Ajuga or Phormium 'Jack Pratt'.
