Fast-growing, short-lived evergreen tree. Design height is 15', mature height is 25'. Simple, alternate and pinnate (or bi-pinate)
leaves, or reduced to phyllodes, mostly lance-shaped to ovate, 4 to 6" long, yellow-green. Yellow 2 to 2 1/2" flowers, blooms in
March and April. Prefers full sun, moderate to no water, likes loam and sandy soil. Tolerates drought, heat, salt air, wind and poor soil. Nitrogen fixing.
Good multi-trunked tree, useful as background tree, for erosion control, as an informal hedge, as a screen or windbreak, good on coast. (Acacia decurrens is the acacia that flowers early and that many people are allergic to).
